In today’s competitive market, having the right skills and qualifications is important. Vocational education and training (VET) provides practical skills and knowledge aligned with the needs of industry and business, through nationally recognised qualifications. As a leading centre for courses including traineeships, VET and assessments. Trainwest has approval to provide the following funding access options.

Skills Checkpoint for Older Workers

Department of Education Skills and Employment

To fill the gap in the services currently available to older Australians, The Australian Government funded a national rollout of the Skills Checkpoint for Older Workers Program.

Eligibility for Skills Checkpoint:

  • aged 40 or over
  • an Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • employed and at risk of entering the income support system, or
  • recently unemployed (within twelve months) and
  • not registered for assistance through an Australian Government employment services program (e.g. jobactive, Disability Employment Service, Community Development Programme).


Please note eligibility for the unemployed has been extended to 12 months
.

What is the Skills and Training Incentive, and how do I access the Incentive?

  • This program has been reinstated for 2024! The https://www.busyatwork.com.au/skills-checkpoint-program/Skills and Training Incentive (the Incentive) is available to people who have completed a Skills Checkpoint Program Career Plan that identified training opportunities (accredited or non-accredited) linked to either their current job, a future opportunity, or an industry, occupation or skill in demand.
  • The Incentive aims to assist older Australians to invest in their training and adopt a life-long approach to skills development.
  • Eligible participants may access up to $2,200 (GST inclusive) from the Australian Government to fund re-skilling or up-skilling opportunities. Either the participant or their current employer must match the government contribution.
  • The Incentive is available from the 1 January 2021 to the 30 June 2024 for up to 10,000 participants per year. Participants must have first completed the Skills Checkpoint Program and have a Career Plan identifying suitable training needs

Jobs and Skills WA

WA State Government

Jobs and Skills WA is the way the State Government prioritises its investment in training to focus on courses that equip people to take up jobs that are or will be in high demand, and in the services provided to support people to achieve successful training and employment outcomes.

You are eligible for a subsidised training place if your primary place of residence is in Western Australia and you are: 
  • an Australian citizen; or
  • a permanent visa holder; or
  • a holder of visa subclass 309, 444, 785, 790, 820 or 826; or
  • a dependent or spouse of the primary holder of a visa subclass 457; or
  • a Bridging Visa E holder (subclasses 050 and 051) and you have made a valid application for a visa of subclass 785 or 790.

Industry Training Funding

Construction Industry Training Fund (CTF)

The construction industry is the largest industry in WA.  CTF is committed to regularly updating employees in this sector to support individuals maintaining employment, and to ensure high health and safety standards for the industry.

The Construction Training Fund is made available to organisations and their staff within the construction industry to offset the cost of up-skilling staff, and to provide support to develop the required skills in the construction industry. The Construction Training Fund can meet up to 70% of the costs of a wide range of approved short training courses (and up to 80% for training delivered in regional areas).  

All courses supported by the Construction Training Fund are delivered by qualified training personnel through Registered Training Organisations (RTOs).

The CTF Supplementary Skills and Occupational Health and Safety Programs provide subsidies to eligible construction industry workers (including apprentices and trainees) who successfully complete training in a range of short training courses to obtain or upgrade the skills essential for their work role.

Courses recognised in the CTF Supplementary Skills program must have direct benefits for the skills and/or knowledge base of workers in the construction industry. The main areas covered in the Supplementary Skills program are:

  • Construction Skills (practical skills that may result in  a certificate of competency or a’ticket’ to operate machinery or plant).
  • Industry Skills (management, business, technology and communication)
  • Software Skills
  • Occupational Licensing
  • Higher Qualifications
  • Occupational Safety & Health

 

Trainwest’s training and assessment courses for “higher qualifications” covered by Construction Training Fund funding include:

  • BSB40520 Certificate IV in Leadership and Management
  • BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety
  • BSB40920 Certificate IV in Project Management
  • BSB51319 Diploma of Work Health and Safety
  • Safety and Health Representatives course

How to claim?

Claims can be lodged directly with CTF via their online claims system at ctf.wa.gov.au. Claimants can create a unique account with CTF to upload and view the progress of all claims. 

Individual claim:

  • Provide a copy of tax receipt from the training provider
  • Provide a copy of statement of attainment or completion certificate for the course 
  • If unemployed, complete an Individual work history declaration and provide minimum six months of work history within 12 months prior to course commencement

Employer claim

  • Provide a copy of tax receipt from the training provider
  • Provide a copy of statement of attainment or completion certificate for the course 
  • Attach a tax invoice from the company to Construction Training Fund with subsidy amount plus GST.

Fees

Department of Training and Workforce Development (DTWD) - VET Fees and Charges Policy 2021

To enrol into any Jobs and Skills WA funded training, students must pay fees and charges in accordance with the DTWD VET Fees and Charges Policy.
